Research
Fernando is a lead author of the IPCC AR7 (inter-governmental panel on climate change), working group III on mitigation of climate change.
Fernando's research focuses on eco-innovation in industry. More specifically, it has a strong focus on decision support and policy aspects of green innovation and circularity for the decarbonization of companies and industrial sectors. More recently, he has been conducting research about systemic eco-innovation and transformative climate resilience.

His research portfolio includes over 60 research grants and advisory contracts, and it has been funded by: the European Commission (Horizon Europe, H2020, FP7, FP6, EuropeAid), UN Environment, Inter-American Development Bank, World Bank. Fernando has also provided advice to private companies in the chemicals, hygiene products, construction and agro-food sectors. The combined theoretical and practical insights has resulted in a large number of publications.
